Minimum Install VNC Remote Desktop Server on Centos

On this tutorial we are going to install VNC server on a Centos 5.6 Linux VPS. The objective is to install minimum packages to save disk space and keep the package installation minimum.

To install VNC server and Gnome desktop, run this command:

yum install vnc-server gnome-desktop xorg-x11-xinit xterm gnome-applets gnome-session gnome-themes gnome-panel gdm firefox dbus-x11

Free Virtual CD-ROM For Netbook

As Netbook doesn’t have CD-ROM it makes software installation which comes in CD or DVD a bit difficult. You can of course buy an external USB DVD-ROM to use CD/DVD, another cheaper solution is by installing virtual CD-ROM.  One of virtual CD software is Slysoft’s Virtual Clone Drive which is available for free.

Virtual CloneDrive works and behaves just like a physical CD/DVD drive, however it exists only virtually. Image files generated with CloneDVD or CloneCD can be mounted onto a virtual drive from your hard-disk or from a network drive and used in the same manner as inserting them into a normal CD/DVD drive.

Adding Watermark to Your Photos

Adding watermark such as “Copyright Your Name” to your photos is always nice thing to do as people that downloading your photos from image hosting like flickr or deviantart will know from who they take the photo.

While adding watermark can be done using image editing software like Adobe Photoshop or GIMP, it’s a tedious task if you want to add watermark to many photos. An easier way to do watermarking is by using Google Picasa, here is how to do it:

1. Open Google Picasa and select the images that you want to add watermark on it. You can select multiple images by press and hold the Ctrl key while you clicking on the images.

2. Click Export button on Google Picasa panel.

3. Select your export destination (here is the folder where the images with watermark will be saved). Select the image size and quality.

4. Give check on “Add a watermark” checkbox and type the watermark text you want.

5. Click on OK.
