As Netbook doesn’t have CD-ROM it makes software installation which comes in CD or DVD a bit difficult. You can of course buy an external USB DVD-ROM to use CD/DVD, another cheaper solution is by installing virtual CD-ROM. One of virtual CD software is Slysoft’s Virtual Clone Drive which is available for free.
Virtual CloneDrive works and behaves just like a physical CD/DVD drive, however it exists only virtually. Image files generated with CloneDVD or CloneCD can be mounted onto a virtual drive from your hard-disk or from a network drive and used in the same manner as inserting them into a normal CD/DVD drive.
- Supports all common image formats such as ISO, BIN, CCD
- Supports up to 8 virtual drives at the same time
- Easy to use – just double-click an image file to mount as a drive
- Virtual CloneDrive is freeware, you may use it at no cost.
Using Virtual CloneDrive you can create an ISO image of your CD/DVD from your PC and then copy that ISO file to your netbook via network, USB drive or External HDD. You can create ISO image using free software called ImgBurn. In case you play games on your PC that requires CD/DVD to be inserted, using Virtual Clone Drive give you benefits of faster data reading as your CD/DVD actually being read from your harddrive which have faster performance.
