hMailServer is a truly free email server for Microsoft Windows Server. You can create as many email accounts as you needed, it also come with a lot of features that mostly you’ll find in a commercial products.
hMailServer is widely used by ISP, companies, governments and education organization. It supports common email protocols (IMAP, POP3, SMTP) and can be integrated with many existing web mail software such as: Squirrelmail and RoundCube.
Thunderbird is a great open source email client but it doesn’t have build-in backup tool to backup emails, address book, settings and extension that already installed. For advanced user backing up Thunderbird emails can be achieved by copying the profiles directory to another and zip it for archieving. To restore it all you need is copy back the profiles to Thunderbird directory.

Once you finished installing version 3, you’ll see Migration Assistant page with explanation of 3 new features worth knowing about. In my testing as I’m using IMAP, Thunderbird show its IMAP synchronize option and offer an alternative to not synchronize to save disk space and data traffic costs.
